Did your week include as much bleach, trips to Walgreens, and wet ponytails in the morning as mine did? I hope not!
David came down with a violent stomach bug on Sunday evening, suddenly, in the middle of the night. He had not eaten much that day since he exhorted in Momence, IL, during the evening service. (He doesn't like to eat heavily when preaching). We suspected nothing at the time since he has a sensitive stomach anyway. Even after his first trip to the bathroom, I remember asking him to come back to bed so I could get back to sleep. (I am used to the white noise of his sleep apnea machine to help me drift off to sleep every night.) Little did I know he would be getting sick for more than 24 more hours!!
I was praying I would not get his virus because David was out of commission all week, and I can't afford to have a substitute that long! I had a substitute for four days during my appendicitis experience, and that was just crazy! Also, I am a wimp and would not be able to handle it like he did! In hindsight, I wish I would have stayed home Monday to take care of David better, and Friday to rest myself, since I was nauseated all day while teaching. I developed a head cold and some of the symptoms David had, but they were very mild in comparison. They say schoolteachers have the strongest immune system of all!
I wanted to blog about this week because otherwise it will be a blur in my memory. A week of exhaustion, doing the bare minimum, and trying to survive each day as it came ... but God is good. He brought us through it and helped us to appreciate the "little" blessings, like the fact that today we were finally able to hug each other again! :)
The pets are doing well. Sarah did not like the 8 inches of snow we got a few weeks ago. Let's just say it's a good thing she's not white! We can't seem to figure out how to control Eliot -- he is so fat that he doesn't mind being drenched with water from the tap when he jumps up into the sink, or being smacked when he is bad! When we needed an open door to the restroom for emergencies this week, we couldn't lock him in to contain him. (And yes, we normally use bungee cords to keep the door closed -- he's figured out how to open doors, now, too.) So I had to put him in "kitty jail" -- aka the laundry basket upside down! Of course, the "jail" kept moving out into the hallway...
It was very hard seeing David suffer so much, even with knowing in a matter of time he would re-hydrate and get his energy back. He lost eleven pounds in four days! Pray for him to be able to catch up on his schoolwork. It will be very difficult with the school year, and his academic career, wrapping up here soon. What's next, you might ask? We should know more at the beginning of May. :)
Poor David! I'm glad you didn't get the full version yourself. Being sick always makes me especially thankful for good health. :) So nice to hear an update anyway.
